Frequently asked questions

What is MeritFit?
MeritFit builds a Likely, Target, and Reach college list for your student and estimates what your family would actually pay at each school. We start from the net price families in your income range paid, then subtract the automatic merit scholarships and state aid your student qualifies for.
What is merit aid?
Merit aid is money a college gives for a student's grades, test scores, talents, or other achievements, not for financial need. Unlike loans, it does not have to be repaid. Many colleges publish automatic merit scholarships: meet the GPA or test score listed and the award comes with admission.
Do I have to qualify for need-based aid to use MeritFit?
No. MeritFit was built for families who earn too much for much need-based aid but still need college to be affordable. Merit aid is available regardless of income at the schools that offer it.
How accurate are the price estimates?
They are planning estimates, not offers. Where a school has reported net price by income to the U.S. Department of Education, we use the figure for your income range and label it high confidence. Every school card links to the school's own Net Price Calculator, which is the only authoritative estimate.
Which colleges are included?
About 2,000 four-year public and private nonprofit colleges in the United States. Colleges that have closed or announced closure are removed.
How do you find merit scholarships?
We read each college's published scholarship pages and, where available, its Common Data Set. Every scholarship we show links back to the school's page so you can verify it, and schools still under review say so instead of showing dollar amounts.
How much does MeritFit cost?
$79 for 12 months of access for one student, or $99 for 12 months for every student in your household. It is a one-time payment with no subscription and no automatic renewal.
What is your refund policy?
Full refund within 7 days of purchase, no conditions. Email hello@collegemeritfit.com.
Can I upgrade from one student to the family plan?
Yes. Within 30 days of buying the $79 plan, you can upgrade to Family for $20. Your access end date stays the same.
Who can create an account?
Parents and legal guardians who are 18 or older. Students do not create accounts or pay. A parent enters the student's information.
How do I sign in?
With a sign-in link sent to your email. There is no password to remember, and you stay signed in on each device until you sign out.
Do you sell my information?
No. We use your information only to build your matches and run your account. See our privacy policy for details.
